Really, Slate? In ALL Aspects?

In my last post, I had a link to a Slate.com about Hillary Clinton. I didn’t want to bring it up at the time, but….I will now. Let me quote a little something for you:

Clinton’s ideological enemies have had fun, too. Matt Drudge posted a sound clip of it, and Sean Hannity raised the pressing question of whether Clinton’s laughter was presidential. Hannity should be reminded that George Bush’s Beavis laugh was such an accurate imitation of the teenage cartoon reprobate he should have had to pay royalties. Like all aspects of the Clinton campaign, there’s sexism in the giggle critique: Women can only laugh in certain preapproved ways. Historically, men have categorized women’s laughter as a way to diminish them—they either cackle like a witch, or they titter like a schoolgirl.

Did you read what I did? Let’s take away the non-interesting bits.

So, John Dickerson, are you ready to back up that statement? If you look in every aspect of Clinton’s campaign, you’re going to be able to show us sexism. In every aspect. I eagerly wait for you to prove that.

I’ve found that one of the greatest ways to prove a statement or action was sexist is to switch the genders around. In terms of Hillary’s laugh, would you call it sexist to make fun of a male politican’s laugh? I’ll go ahead and answer that. In fact, I’ll do one better and quote John Dickerson in this same article: “Hannity should be reminded that George Bush’s Beavis laugh was such an accurate imitation of the teenage cartoon reprobate he should have had to pay royalties.” Not very sexist, is it?

The Presidential Race is a very heated event and cheap shots are taken at everyone. Whether we’re talking about what they wear (Obama’s pin), their hair (Edwards’s $400 haircut), their religion (Romney’s LDS), or their laugh. If you want people not to make fun of Hillary’s laugh, don’t make fun of W’s. If you want a ceasefire about her looks, you gotta include the men. Right now, she’s being treated as an equal with the other candidates. If you want her to get special treatment, don’t be surprised if people call you sexist.
